‘Digital Disruption’ and ‘Big Data’ are terms that were born in the early 2000s. In the short span of two decades, these terms have permeated every aspect of our lives. For large organisations, putting these words into action has become a matter of survival. Supply chain is one area to have undergone immense disruption. In the last 20 years, supply chain has become a function unto itself. With e-commerce setting the pace, the pressure on large companies to stay agile, innovate, and keep last mile control has further increased. Yet, in 2010, when McKinsey asked 639 supply chain leaders a question on owned information, only 27% had full data of costs across the supply chain, with 41% not even tracking the per-customer-cost to any useful level of detail. In its five years since product launch, VersaFleet has seen this trend change. Now, when we talk to our customers in Fortune 500 companies, we sense the urgency to own all their data; To know what is happening, not just till the wholesale distribution stage but till the very last mile to the customer. Supply chain leaders want to know who their customers are, what are the buying trends, how each retail store is performing, what are the costs, and what are the defining metrics.
