Polymer materials play vital roles in our daily lives. Due to the complex macromolecular structure, the discovery of highly precise design and synthesis of macromolecules demands meticulous control of primary and higher order macromolecular structures as well as the functionality of polymeric materials. In this talk, I will present a series of recent findings on organocatalyzed controlled polymerization and the synthesis of well-defined polymer structures. The development of novel polymerization methods and catalysts offers effective synthetic routes for the preparation of polymer brushes, polymer micelles and chain-end functionalized polymers. In addition, green polymerization systems with recyclable solid-supported catalysts under green conditions will also be introduced as a waste reduction process. The facile operation with low-cost catalysts, broad monomer scope and accessibility to broad polymeric structures are critical criteria for practical use.


Dr. WANG Chen-Gang is presently a Senior Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences at Nanyang Technological University. He pursued his B. Eng. and M. Sc. in Chemical Engineering and Polymer Science at National Taiwan University and obtained his Ph.D. in Organic and Polymeric Materials from Tokyo Institute of Technology. His research recognitions and prestigious awards include Singapore National Institute of Chemistry – Prof Lee Soo Ying Early Career Research Award in 2019. His research interest includes polymer chemistry and physics, polymeric material, organic chemistry and green chemistry.
